Smart #5 Review in Egypt 2026: Space, Safety, Technology and Everyday Use
The smart #5 is the step up from compact smart city cars to a five-seat premium electric SUV. This research guide evaluates what matters when living with one in Egypt, without repeating the live price list found on the dedicated vehicle page.

At a glance
The short answer: the smart #5 makes the strongest case when you value family space, a distinctive cabin, strong independent safety results and a charging plan you can actually use. It is less convincing if your parking is extremely tight or you would rely on an unverified public charger for every trip.
A 2,900 mm wheelbase and 630 L rear luggage figure make the #5 a genuinely practical five-seat vehicle, not simply a taller city hatchback.
The tested model earned five Euro NCAP stars in 2025; the four category percentages are not crash-free driving probabilities.
Pro+ and Premium claim up to 590 km WLTP, while BRABUS is rated up to 540 km WLTP under the UK specifications; Egypt figures must be confirmed by trim.
Treat the 18-minute DC charging headline as an ideal 400 kW-compatible charging result, not a promise at every Egyptian station.

A larger smart: where the #5 fits in Egypt
For years, many people associated smart with the tiny fortwo. The #5 challenges that memory. At 4,695 mm long and 1,920 mm wide without mirrors, it sits among premium family SUVs, not tiny urban runabouts. It is still designed around electric mobility, but it serves a very different parking, passenger and luggage brief from the brand's original city cars.
That shift matters for a driver in Cairo, New Cairo or on a coastal weekend trip. Before looking at the screen sizes or acceleration, ask where the vehicle will park, whether the garage offers a practical charging location and how regularly the rear seats carry adults. A vehicle that works on a specification sheet still needs to work in your building and on your own routes.
In the SPARKD-EV catalog, this is a mid-size premium battery-electric SUV. The model listing is the place for the current local starting price and advertised trims. The next questions are what the car offers in everyday use, what independent evidence shows and what you should verify before ordering.

Interior and luggage space: focus on the usable numbers
The UK specification gives the smart #5 five seats, a 2,900 mm wheelbase and 630 L of rear luggage capacity with the seats in place. Folding the rear seats increases the quoted capacity to 1,530 L. The front storage area varies by drivetrain: the RWD Pro+ and Premium list 72 L, while the AWD BRABUS lists 47 L.
The useful ownership test is more practical than quoting litres. Bring the stroller, a large suitcase or the bags you normally carry. Try putting a child seat in the rear, check how easily adults enter through the back doors and sit in the driver's seat with your preferred setting before judging rear-legroom. Wide-bodied SUVs can also feel different in a narrow Cairo underground garage.
Local infotainment languages, app functions, wireless connectivity and audio hardware can differ by version or market. An international video can show a feature that is not present in a specific Egyptian car. Ask SPARKD-EV to demonstrate the actual trim on site.
- Verify parking width with mirrors extended
- Test child-seat access and folded-seat loading
- Check the actual trim's audio and cabin options
- Confirm that any promised app features function locally
How safe is the smart #5? Independent Euro NCAP evidence
In 2025 Euro NCAP assessed the smart #5 Pro and awarded the model a five-star overall rating. Its published scores were 88% Adult Occupant, 93% Child Occupant, 84% Vulnerable Road Users and 92% Safety Assist. This is stronger support for a family-safety conversation than an unqualified claim that the vehicle is 'the safest' in every situation.
The passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal-offset impact test. Euro NCAP nevertheless identified marginal chest protection for the driver in its detailed assessment, so even an excellent overall result deserves an accurate explanation. Driver-assistance features also support the driver; they do not replace attention, safe speeds or careful decisions.
Safety equipment can differ between markets and trims. Confirm which airbags, child-seat anchors and driver-assistance functions are fitted to the exact vehicle you are buying, and check the VIN-specific specification rather than assuming a European brochure applies unmodified in Egypt.
| Euro NCAP 2025 category | Published score |
|---|---|
| Adult occupant | 88% |
| Child occupant | 93% |
| Vulnerable road users | 84% |
| Safety assist | 92% |
Range and charging: what the brochure can and cannot tell you
The official UK homologation lists 590 km WLTP for the Pro+ and Premium, compared with 540 km for BRABUS. The bigger power figure on BRABUS does not create more driving range. On a hot Egyptian motorway, consumption will also reflect speed, air conditioning, tyres, load and the available battery state; WLTP is a standardized laboratory cycle, not a Cairo-to-Hurghada guarantee.
The 100 kWh gross battery on those versions supports a quoted 10-80% DC charging time of around 18 minutes under optimal conditions at a suitable high-power charger. A 400 kW vehicle capability does not imply a local charger can provide 400 kW. Battery temperature and the starting state of charge also matter.
If you can charge at your own parking space, daily ownership is relatively easy to plan. If your only option is public charging, check the actual sites you use, connector type, payment app, reliability and access before making the purchase. Our dedicated range and charging guide covers that decision in detail.

Five checks before deciding whether the smart #5 is right for you
Do not buy from a single range figure or an online colour rendering. Compare your requirements in this order: physical fit, available charging, actual Egyptian trim, support and warranty, and only then the total financial commitment. The premium EV that feels exciting on launch day should also be a straightforward car to own every weekday.
If you drive mostly around the city and want premium comfort, compare the Pro+ and Premium by fitted equipment rather than just price. If rapid acceleration and AWD traction drive the decision, BRABUS is a separate proposition. The trim-by-trim article explains those differences without turning into a second price page.
Finally, compare the smart #5 with a direct alternative at roughly the same budget. The ZEEKR 7X and IM6 comparisons answer different shopping decisions; do not treat their peak range claims as apples-to-apples if the test cycles or trims differ.
- Ask for the VIN-specific Egyptian equipment list
- Confirm warranty terms in writing
- Check charger compatibility for home and routes
- Test drive with your normal passenger and parking needs
- Get a dated final price and stock quote from SPARKD-EV
From city-car origins to a full electric range
smart's original fortwo appeared in 1998 as a radically compact urban car. In the current generation the brand positions the #1, #3 and #5 for different needs; the #5 is the largest and most family-oriented of those European-market offerings. That history explains the change in scale, but it should not replace an evaluation of the actual car on sale in Egypt.
The supplied smart Europe/WELT 'Innovation Deutschland' documentary trailer discusses the brand's evolution. The separate Concept #2 image below illustrates a future small smart project: it is not a photo of the smart #5 and does not describe the equipment in an Egyptian #5.
